Growing Connected Families

A gentler way forward begins with understanding.

When everyday life feels hard, families are often offered more strategies, more expectations, and more pressure.

But what if the place to begin isn't changing your child, but understanding what their behavior, nervous system, and need for autonomy are communicating?

Growing Connected Families offers compassionate, PDA-informed support that considers the needs of the whole family.

Together, we get curious about what's happening beneath the surface, nurture felt safety and connection, and discover sustainable ways forward that honor everyone's needs and capacity.

Our Approach

Curiosity Before Connection

What if, instead of asking how to change a behavior, we began by getting curious about what is happening beneath it?

At Growing Connected Families, we recognize that behavior is communication, capacity fluctuates, and felt safety is the foundation for connection and growth.

Our approach is rooted in understanding PDA, honoring autonomy, recognizing nervous system needs, and supporting the whole family—not just the child who may be struggling.

We move away from expectations of what family life should look like and toward discovering what each person needs to feel safe, connected, and supported.

Because when we change the conditions, new possibilities for growth can emerge.

The Foundation of Connection

Our approach is rooted in six guiding principles that help us understand one another, cultivate felt safety, and nurture connection throughout the whole family.

Understanding Before Judgement

We look beneath behavior with curiosity, seeking to understand nervous system needs, autonomy, and fluctuating capacity.

Collaboration over Compliance

We honor essential needs while finding flexible, creative ways to meet them that respect everyone's capacity.

Felt Safety Before Expectations

Connection begins with safety. We nurture trust and understanding before asking for change or growth.

Growth Has Seasons

Just like the natural world, families move through seasons of change.

There are times for exploring, learning, and trying something new. And there are times when life asks us to slow down, gather close, and focus on safety, rest, and restoration.

Sometimes different members of the same family are experiencing entirely different seasons.

At Growing Connected Families, we recognize that capacity is always changing. What feels possible today may feel overwhelming tomorrow, and progress rarely follows a straight line.

Rather than rushing toward growth, we get curious about the season each person is experiencing and what they need right now.

We focus on nurturing the conditions where connection, safety, and growth can unfold naturally.

You are the roots. Your child is not a problem to solve, but a relationship to nurture.

I've Walked This Path, Too.

I come to this work with education and professional experience in the disability support field. But the most valuable things I've learned haven't come from a classroom or a job. They've come from nearly 12 years of parenting multiple children with PDA profiles.

I've been the exhausted, terrified parent desperately searching for answers. I've felt the loneliness, the grief, the uncertainty, and the heartbreak of watching my children and my whole family suffer.

I've walked through multiple periods of profound burnout. I've questioned everything I thought I knew about parenting. And I've stood at that frightening crossroads where the conventional paths weren't working, but stepping away from them meant venturing into the unknown.

I know how lonely that journey can feel.

But I also know something else now.

There is genuine hope.

Not because I've discovered a magic strategy or because everything is suddenly easy. But because I've watched what can happen when we begin to understand our children differently, when we prioritize safety and connection, and when we give ourselves permission to build a family life that looks different from what we once imagined.

I've experienced the other side of some of those darkest seasons. And I've learned that there really can be a future with less pain, more connection, more breathing room, and even joy and thriving.

That's why I created Growing Connected Families.

I want to offer other parents the understanding, companionship, and support I so desperately needed when I was finding my own way.

Wherever you are on this journey, you are not alone. And there is reason to hope.

There is
Always
Hope
